Encouraging Your Kids To Be A Storyteller

A good storyteller is not born but is trained to be one! In fact, teaching your children to be a good storyteller is to carry down the old tradition. It’s very easy to cultivate storytelling in your children as is almost as natural as breathing or talking!

The most crucial factor that is needed is confidence. Without confidence, they will be too shy to speak out in front of people despite being able to do so in familiar surroundings. For this matter, sufficient training is important in building their confidence. You can expose your children to more people and make them speak to strangers.

Start to train your children from young. You can do this by arranging a time for the family to have a storytelling session. The story need not have to be from a book but make use of your creativity and teach them how to make up their own story! You might want them to act out the story using props or costumes with background music to make the environment livelier. Or, you can change the background setting for example, during campfires, picnics or during vacations! Bedtime stories are a good candidate for the first step.

Rather than exposing them to different genres of books or storytelling sessions, you can ask them to try to write or draw out their ideas. Not every story has to be same as the actual event but teach them how to spice up their story with some creativity so that the story will be exciting. Encourage them to write down the special events that happened in their day in a dairy so that they can remember it better.

Storytelling competitions can be a good chance for training! Currently, most schools organize such competitions quite frequently so encourage your children to join them! A story they created on their own will be better than a story memorized from books as is will be more interesting and easier to remember! Props and animated voices can be an added advantage over other competitors. Remind them to speak clearly and loudly so that everyone can hear and enjoy the story.

Storytelling is a great activity for children as it not only boosts their confidence but also their creativity while improving their language skills too! It’s no doubt your children will perform well in their language subjects as well as being an outgoing person who has a very creative mind by storytelling.
