Goal Settings for Kids

Have you often heard your little ones telling you their wish and hopes? Well, if it’s not too absurd, you should help them to achieve those wishes and hopes by setting goals for them. Don’t worry about having to make it serious and stressful for you and your children as this is suppose to be fun!

All you need is to be careful with the deadlines or time limits you set and be a good example to them. How? Well, start writing your own goals and let your children write their own too before you both work together into achieving those goals by having them watch you working towards your own goals regularly instead! You may work on your kids goal with them but don’t takeover.

You can set their goals from the range of money by managing their personal finances to managing their health with good eating habits and lifestyles. Helping them to manage themselves or motivate and set their attitude is also good examples of goal settings. Later, you can progress to teaching them how to work with people through increasing their EQ and organizing their life by achieving their aims.

Start small and simple task first! The first time is very important as this will determines whether your child would have the confidence on the next round. You wouldn’t want your little ones get disappointed so early and give up! Let the first aim be an easy one that can be achieved in a very short period of time. Cheap materials which are recyclable at home can come in handy at giving ideas of what material to prepare.

Simple charts are going to be your help. You can use sticker charts as a reward in achieving their goals daily or if there are any other rewards where favorably preferred working for an experience or treats to their favorite meal or place instead of a toy , this should be brought up first in the beginning to achieve an agreement. Boards games are good help especially hand made ones where you can write the entire task for them to practice or try at every stop while having fun during play time! You may merge arts and crafts or music into their goal achievements where you might want them to design their name or spell correctly or learn to draw new things and new songs or musical instruments!

It all depends on your kids’ interest and goals that they wrote for themselves. Brain storm and sort out for them later from the easiest to the hardest tasks before displaying a chart for them in an accessible area where you can have them self check themselves. Don’t forget to teach them to talk and think positively as this will help in boosting their confidence!

Now who said goal settings cannot be fun and effective anymore? With correct ways and basic supplies of materials, you still can!
