Understanding Autism In Children

To every parent, you would definitely hope to have healthy children. Autism is one disorder which is a complication of development disability in your children’s communication and relating with others. Children having autism would usually be seen appearing in their own world and is oblivious to others. If you notice their behavior and habits has changed whereby they suddenly become withdrawn or aggressive or even losing their language skills, then its time to take serious treatment for them. You might notice that their development in fundamental skills would delay as well. Normally, simple signs to notice would be repetitive behaviors whereby they resists changes to their routine or shows unusual attachments to toys or other objects and non-verbal warning signs whereby they loose eye contact or loose interest in other people or fails to respond to their own names for instance. You should also watch for their issues relating to food and eating whereby they become picky or addicted or eat too much. As for bowel disorders, notice for bloated stomach and delays in toilet training or constipation and diarrhea. Beware of other medical disorders such as allergies and rashes or asthma as this could also be the beginning of the symptoms.

What causes autisms is undetermined for every case. In all cases it could be due to genetic basis as parents from families with autistic members are much likely to have children inheriting the disorders while families with one autistic child are at increased risk of having more than one autistic child. It could possibly be from vaccines of mercury-based preservative which causes the development of autisms. Some proven that autism is linked to problems with the immune system while some thinks food allergies from gluten (a wheat product) and casein (dairy) are the culprits to autism. However, research has proven that it’s definitely not from bad parenting or differences in the size of the brain either.

So far most parents would still prefer to take care of the child diagnosed with autism at home while special education classes are available for them too. Most of the behavioral treatment programs would usually include clear instructions to the child while prompting to perform specific behaviors and immediate praise and reward for performing those behaviors to a gradual increase in the complexity of reinforced behaviors and definite distinctions of when and when not to perform the learned behaviors. Parents would also be educated in the behavioral techniques to be able to participate in all aspects of the child’s care and treatment. Medication is also recommended to treat specific symptoms.

Sufficient care and attention should be given to your child with autism as this would help them to develop their intelligence and language ability.
